This museum is housed in the 1941 Ford Motor Company hangar which produced 8700 B-24 "Liberator" bombers during World War II. Antique and vintage aircraft, bombers, transports, fighters, artifacts, and memorabilia tracking flight since World War I. Displays cover World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam, and Women in Aviation. Fully reconstructed World War II aircraft. Extensive aviation reference library open Saturday by appointment. The Yankee Air Force was founded in 1981 and now has over 1200 members. Memorial Day is a special event with a pancake breakfast, open house, demonstrations, and cockpit photos. They usually sponsor a Founder's Day Big Band Dinner Dance and Open House fundraiser in the fall, a holiday party and potluck dinner in December, and a spring dinner dance in March. Other activities include polishing and restoration work and bus trips to local aviation museums. Vintage aircraft are also sent to many midwest airshows. |
