From Ann Arbor, take US-23 south into Ohio approximately 37 miles.
After crossing the Ohio border, take the second exit, bearing left onto I-475 East towards Toledo.
Follow it for 6.4 miles. Bear right onto I-75 South towards Downtown Toledo. Go 2 miles, then take
Exit 202A to Downtown Toledo and Washington Street. Stay to the right as you exit the freeway and
follow the signs for Washington Street. Head for the center lane as the street curves to the left
(Indiana St.), then to the right heading into town on one-way Washington. Move to the left lane.
Turn left at the 2nd light onto one-way N. Erie Street (just after N. Ontario). Go 5 blocks on Erie,
then turn left at the 5th light on one-way Jackson Street just past the courthouse. The City of Toledo
Safety Building is at that corner and the Court of Appeals is to the right just beyond. Go one block,
then turn left at the light onto one-way N. Michigan Street, passing the Family Court Center building.
Go a block and a half on Michigan; the library is to the right just past Adams. Once inside, take the elevator to the third floor to get to the local history and genealogy department. To return, continue following N. Michigan for two blocks from the library. At the third light, turn right onto one-way E. Monroe Street going away from downtown. Move to the left lane and turn left at the second light onto 14th, following signs to I-75 North. Go 2 miles on I-75. Stay in the left lane, bearing left at Exit 204 onto I-475 West towards Sylvania and Ann Arbor. Follow I-475 for 6.4 miles, then take Exit 14 to US-23 North, and follow it back to Ann Arbor. Yahoo! | Parking | Street parking is available along N. Michigan and E. Adams for $.25 per 20 minutes for a maximum of two hours from 8-11 and 2-4 weekdays. Street parking is free from 11-2 and from 5-8 weekdays and on weekends. Allright Parking maintains a large lot directly across the street from the library at a cost of $1.00 per half hour, daily maximum $3.75. The maximum rate is $3.25 if arriving before 9am and leaving after 3pm. After 4pm and until closing at 8:30pm, parking is $1. On Sunday, there is no charge. |

The collection concentrates on Ohio and adjacent states plus the
original thirteen states, and is expanding its collection of materials for states west of the Mississippi.
The library maintains an extensive collection of genealogical resource materials, periodicals, and family
histories. Michigan materials include county and local histories under call numbers 974.4 and 929.3744.
Census indexes and microfilm for Ohio and Michigan are available for 1820-1920, Soundex 1880 and 1900-1920;
for Kentucky 1810-1880. CDs from the LDS Family History Center. Ohio resources include several card indexes:
obituaries 1970-1989, Murphy Mortuary Collection, surname index, newspaper clippings of military servicemen
(in unmarked drawers), photograph collection, Toledo landmarks, streets and architecture, surname index for
the Lucas County Chapter OGS and the Northwest Ohio Genealogical Society. Obituaries 1990-present are available
online. Many court and vital records and indexes are available on microfilm. To find the Michigan section, turn to your right upon entering the room, pass the copier and the doorway to the travel and history department on your right, and head for a short hallway lined with bookshelves. Michigan materials are located about in the middle of the set of shelves to the right. Census indexes are at the far end of room from the entrance and around the corner to the right.
