Directions	Directions Follow I-96, exiting at I-127 north, then I-496 west. Follow I-496 west to exit 5, the Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. Turn right (north) onto MLK Blvd. and go three blocks to Kalamazoo St. Turn right (east) onto Kalamazoo St. Continue one block passing Butler. In the middle of the next block, turn left towards the building. Follow the street, circling to the right, passing the library entrance. Turn right into the visitor's parking lot. See map of the Michigan Historical Center.
Parking	Free parking is available in the large lot across the street from the library.
Holdings	Eighty million manuscripts and documents from state and local government sources and personal papers going back to 1797; 300,000 photographs; 500,000 maps. Descriptive Rolls of Michigan Units, 1838-1919. Unpublished indexes of veterans of the Spanish-American War and World War I. Civil War graves registration by county and soldier's name. Muster rolls of the Grand Army of the Republic and other military fraternal organizations. Early tax assessments and general tax rolls for Washtenaw County beginning 1830. State census manuscripts including the 1887 Civil War Veteran Census.
Restrictions	Closed stacks, non-circulating.
Publications	A Guide to the State Archives of Michigan (1977) and Archival Circulars to assist in accessing materials by subject. (These are available from their home page.)
Copying	Materials in good condition may be copied. Photocopies $.20 per page. Microprint $.25 per page. Certified copy $1 for certification plus $1 per page. Copies of photographs can be ordered for $5.00 for an 8x10 if the negative exists, $10.25 if the negative is not available. Patrons will be billed.
