Many new arrivals at the University of Michigan find themselves in "incomplete" apartments. If you have a need for cooking utensils, tools, furniture, etc., there is no need to expend your limited resources at expensive retail stores.
Consider the Kiwanis Club. This is a community service organization that accepts donations of good servicable household items and resells them at low prices. This enables that group of volunteers to provide neccessities at a reasonable price and raise funds for their charitable works. The Kiwanis store is open Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
