Offering Changes effective 2012
Announcement from the Resource Committee to members and contributors:
Effective January 1, 2012, Emmanuel has discontinued the service that mails offering envelopes to member households. The cost of this service is approaching $1,200. More and more members have gone to electronic giving, which eliminates the need for envelopes. Very few members actually use a weekly envelope – many use one per month or 1 occasionally. Our homebound or out of area members send on average 3 envelopes a year. While the number on units of envelopes has gone down, the cost per unit goes up as we don’t quality a larger quantity discount.
All members have an account number assigned to them to keep track of offerings. We will continue to use those account numbers. You can use a pew envelope and put your name or account number on it. A supply of pew envelopes will be available in the rack on the pews as well as on the table in the narthex. You may take a supply home if you wish to prepare your offering before coming to worship.
We recognize that some members would prefer to have a box of weekly envelopes. If you want that, notify the church office (emmanuel@provide.net or 734-482-7121). We can order boxes of envelopes that will last one year. They will not be dated, but they will be marked “1st Sunday January” etc. You would need to still put your name or account number on the envelope. We would ask for $2.00 from each participant to cover the cost.
Please give the new system a try. If you have questions, check with your Resource Committee (Church Council) or contact the church office. In the upcoming month or so there will be some Temple Talks to further discuss this issue.
Thanks and blessings to all.
