Meet Pastor Hendricks
Pastor David A. Hendricks grew up in Toledo, Ohio. He received a Bachelors of Education degree from the University of Toledo in 1978, He taught high school and middle school in Northwest Ohio prior to entering Trinity Lutheran Seminary. He was also a head wrestling coach and assistant football coach during the time he taught.
He married Joan Bremer in 1979. Joan and Dave have two daughters.
Pastor Dave has served Emmanuel since October 2006, first serving as interim pastor following the retirement of Jonathan Bomgren. Following prayerful deliberation by our congregation, Pastor Dave was called to serve as Emmanuel's pastor in February 2009. His first two calls were for two-year periods (coinciding with the beginning of Emmanuel's Transformational Ministry program); in January 2013 Pastor Dave accepted a settled (open-ended) call.
Since his ordination in 1987, Pastor Hendricks has served throughout the Southeast Michigan Synod, including congregations located in Ottawa Lake, Detroit, Madison Heights, Ida, Ann Arbor, and Chelsea. He most recently served as the interim associate pastor at Zion Lutheran in Ann Arbor.
In addition to family life he enjoys clowning, a variety of collectable toys, and reading. He is an active member of the Reconciliation Ministry Team, Anti-Racism Team, and Interim Ministers of the Southeast Michigan Synod. He has been involved with the Lutheran Renewal movement, Via de Cristo, since 1988. He has also served as a small group leader at Leadership Training School (high school age youth) at Michi-Lu-Ca Lutheran Camp.
