Pastor's Message
March 2013
To the Children of God at Emmanuel:
I hope that all of you know that I have decided to accept the call to serve Emmanuel as its regularly called pastor. We will continue to allow God to send the Holy Spirit to guide us in our life time of transformation in and through Christ. This is also the very heart of our Lenten journey.
I thought about using another series for Lent on Wednesday than the one we are using. I may use the idea for next year. It had to do with fasting. I took the idea from another source and would like to share this with you now. Here we go...
- Fast from complaining: Instead of complaining, recall the moments of joy in your life.
- Fast from discouragement: Remember Jesus’ promise that he has a perfect plan for you.
- Fast from resentment and bitterness: Work on forgiving the people who have hurt you.
- Fast from judging others: Before judging, recall how Jesus overlooks our faults.
- Fast from anger and hatred: Give your family an extra dose of love every day.
- Fast from overspending: Try reducing spending by 10% and give those savings to people in need.
I wonder how our lives might be transformed if we fasted from all the above throughout our lives. Would such fasting help us to clean the arteries of spiritual heart? Would such fasting transform the way in which we interact with one another? Would such fasting mean that we would become stronger in our life in faith and lean upon God’s will for us?
I think it could make for an interesting Lenten journey to fast in such as shown above. What do you think?
One of Christ’s servants,
Pastor David Hendricks - Child of God
