Pastor's Message
November 2012
To the Children of God at Emmanuel:
We have several festivals of the church year approaching us as well as a national holiday. In all of this we are invited to live our lives with gratitude as well as with generosity. We also have our combination of Thankoffering Sunday for WELCA along with our Covenant Sunday which will happen at one service starting at 10:30 AM on November 11. In addition to all of this Emmanuel will be pulling together another pictorial directory. We have a lot to give thanks to God for even in these chaotic economic times.
Below you will find a card for Covenant Sunday. It includes an opportunity to return to God a portion of your financial blessings as well as an opportunity to increase your spiritual disciplines in such things as intentional times of prayer, study and reflection on our sacred Scripture, and ways you might share your time and talents with Emmanuel and the surrounding community.
In determining how you will fill out the Covenant Card I would ask you to consider your posture as you fill this card out and mail it into the church, send to our email address, or bring it with you on November 11. Psalm 141:2 says, “May my prayer be set before you like incense; may the lifting up of my hands be like the evening sacrifice” (TNIV). Before you fill out the card below I simply ask you to pray before you write anything down. You might get on your knees if they will permit you. You may sit in a chair and close your eyes and simply say or think, “Well, God guide me before I write anything down.” You might lie down on the ground and remember that God knows you and formed you and that when it comes to God “darkness is as light to you” (See Psalm 141:1-18).
One of Christ’s servants,
