Pastor's Message
June 2012
To the Children of God at Emmanuel:
Summer has arrived as we open it with Memorial Day Weekend. The bulk of my newsletter will deal with events happening throughout the summer. However, I would like to remind you that many veterans, especially those who have endured several tours of duty over the last decade, are coming to us with wounds that may or may not be seen by the naked eye. The stats for some of these women and men are more than embarrassing to us who claim to be citizens of the USA. I want to encourage you to contact the VA or another organization to discover ways to help and/or honor returning veterans or those who have already returned. We have asked a small portion of the citizens of the United States to bear the burden of war. Dare we forget them?
During the months of June, July and August Emmanuel will be hosting one special event per month. Summer Arts and Fun at Emmanuel (S.A.F.E.) is designed to bring a variety of performances and activities within the confines of Emmanuel. These events will be open to the community. The schedule is being put together and may need to be adjusted due to the performers’ schedules. Here are the events:
- New Wine: Music and drama troupe of high school students. This is a 45 strong group of youth from Living Waters Lutheran Church in Sauk Rapids, MN. They will be performing in June. - June 17 evening.
- 25th Anniversary of Ordination: Special celebration of Ordination of yours truly as well as the ministers of Emmanuel. There will be one service that Sunday with special music and fun after the service. - July 29 morning and afternoon.
- “Who Wants to be a Good Samaritan?”: A puppet show written and directed by Samuel and Miriam Bornhorst to be presented in the evening involving a wide range of ages and support personnel. - August date: TBA.
S.A.F.E. could be expanded if members might wish to share some aspect of their gifts with the wider community. Sally Harmych along with members of the Transformational Ministry Team will help to organize these events. If you might want to share your gifts by having an additional event during the summer please contact the church office.
