Hunger Coalition Dinners
Emmanuel Lutheran Church is a member of the Ypsilanti Hunger Coalition, a coalition of local churches (including First United Methodist, Holy Trinity Student Center, First Presbyterian, and St. Luke's Episcopal Church of Ypsilanti; and St. Matthew's United Methodist of Ypsilanti Township) who for several decades have prepared and served free meals during the week for those in need in the Ypsilanti area. The meals typically feed 60 – 80 or more persons on a weekly basis.
Emmanuel serves as the host church and takes responsibility for three festival meals – Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
I Need Help:
Every Tuesday from 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM, a free dinner is served to all who come to the back of the church. No referral is needed.
I Want to Help Others:
Prepare meals -- Assistance in preparing meals, serving and post-meal cleanup is always welcome. Contact the church office (734-482-7121, emmanuel@provide.net) for more information.
Provide financial support -- There has been a fairly recent change in financing the meals and now each congregation covers the cost of the foods used for the meals.
So far, Emmanuel’s costs have been covered by a Memorial gift but this fund is almost depleted. If you would like to see this ministry continue, consider a gift to help cover the cost of the food in the months and years to come.
