How Can I Serve?
Sometimes we would like to find ways to become more involved with the life of the congregation, but are not sure what is needed. There are many opportunities for service both in the Standing Committees, which are defined by the congregation's constitution and by-laws, and in many other more informal groups.
Are you wondering about some specific ways to become involved? Here are a few suggestions. Think about your own gifts and what you have to offer:
- Be an usher
- Be on the prayer chain
- Pack food boxes for the Emergency Food Pantry
- Help with funeral lunches - prepare food or help to serve and/or clean up
- Help with the newsletter, help assemble and/or mail out
- Be a communion assistant
- Take communion to the home bound
- Assist with youth functions
- Help in the office
- Help with Tuesday Hunger Coalition dinners
- Help keep pews tidy
- Join the Retired Mens' Group
- Attend or lead a Bible Study
- Help with the Christmas Play
- Sing with the choir - if not on a weekly basis, for our special services (Easter or Christmas)
- Volunteer to assist one of the committees with a special event, such as Blanket Sunday, Thankoffering Sunday, or New Member Sunday
- Help with a coffee hour
Church Council & Standing Committees oversee the many facets our congregation's life. A brief overview is given after each committee name (visit the congregational leadership page for a more detailed description of each committee's responsibilities).
