Sunday School

An Update from Pastor Dave:
Emmanuel is seeking to adjust to reality as it plans for Sunday School in 2013- 2014. The Christian Education Committee does not have anyone to head it up at this time. I am trying to pull together curriculum, a small organizational team of two or three people, a schedule and a time in which classes will be taught. I have a basic schedule and time developed.
We will be using lectionary based and age appropriate material as the case has been for several years. The material we will be using is published by Sparkhouse. This is new, but very user friendly material. Sparkhouse makes the material currently used by the catechism program. It is fun and easy.
We will attempt to divide classes into two groups this year. They will be divided into older preschool – second grade and third grade – fifth grade. This is a change from last year. Classes will take place after the children’s message. The children’s message will be based upon the lesson being taught in that Sunday’s class. This will help to provide continuity between worship and the class for all ages. The youth will leave the sanctuary after the children’s message; going over the needed material and assigned projects for the day. They will then be invited to come back to the worship space during Holy Communion. The average time for a class should be about 30 minutes.
I prayerfully ask for several of you to help organize this program for the sake of ALL our children. We will need volunteers to teach, chaperone, and help with crafts during the thirty minutes or so of class. The Sunday School Team’s primary role will be to get this program off the ground and volunteers to help in teaching, chaperoning and craft making.
Those interested in helping organize this program are invited to call the church office. We will have a meeting on Thursday, August 22, at 7:00 PM for this team.
People were bringing even infants to him that he might
touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly
ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said,
‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them;
for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.
Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God
as a little child will never enter it.’
