Who will lead the classes?

Pastor Dave and Pastor Carey
Pastor Dave and Pastor Carey

Pastor Dave, Pastor Carey, and members of the congregation will lead the classes. They will be assisted by other church volunteers, including members of our catechism and high-school groups.

What material will be used?

The program we will use is produced by Spark House; their website has samples of the program materials we will be using.

What about the younger children?

The nursery will continue to have adult supervision throughout the entire 10:45 worship service. As before, the nursery is for children 1-5 years old. Starting this fall we will do some group activities to bring the Bible lessons to our younger children while they are in the nursery.

What about the 'tweens and teens?

Catechism classes will still be led by Pastor Dave and Pastor Carey for students in grades 6-8 at 9:30am on Sundays. High school students are welcome to join the adult program held in the welcoming area, also at 9:30am on Sundays.

Can my child stay in worship?

Certainly! Our education program is designed to bring the gospel lesson to our children at their level. We hope that it will be an engaging part of the worship time for them. But children are always welcome at worship and are not required to attend this program.

How can I help?

A Sign-Up Genius page has been created to coordinate weekly volunteers. Each class requires two people, one to lead the lesson and one to assist the class. Middle school and high school aged children are invited and encouraged to assist with class. Note that all volunteers working with our kids must be willing to have a background check.

For more information please contact SYCS Volunteer Coordinator Eric Maes or the church office.

People were bringing even infants to him that he might
touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they sternly
ordered them not to do it. But Jesus called for them and said,
‘Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them;
for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs.
Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God
as a little child will never enter it.’

Luke 18:15-17 NRSV
