New Library Building Project
> Frequently Asked Questions

Listed below are questions that have been frequently asked in regards to our new library building project. If you have a question that you think should be added to this list, please let Paul McCann know via e-mail at:

Q: When will the library start building the new facility?
A: The Library began construction of the new building in June 2007! Progress pictures of the project will be available soon.

Q: How long will the library be closed for the transition from its present location to the new?
A: The Library has yet to determine how long it will need to close during the transition from our current building to the new building, once it is completed. The Library Staff and Board are committed to keeping the disruption in service as short as possible. While we will need time to move the collection, we will keep the Library open as much as possible.

Q: When will the new library be finished?
A: The Library expects the new facility to open in late fall 2008. A specific date will be set and shared with the community when the Library's construction managers advise the Library that the significant hurdles have been cleared and progress towards completion can be assured.

Q: When will the new library building open?
A: Our current time line has the new Library opening for service in the late fall, 2008.

Q: Will fines change?
A: The Library has no plans to change the fine rates at this time.

Q: Will the library's collection change? (additions? subtractions?)
A: The Library's collection will change in that we will have more items. The Library will make substantial additions to the collection just prior to opening the new facility. Additionally, the Library's collections will be more accessible because items will be shelved for easier access.

Q: Will there be quiet reading areas?
A: The new Library will contain a designated "quiet reading room" and enclosed study rooms. Additionally, the departments serving children and young adults, as well as circulation, will be located on the main floor, while reference and adult services will be located on the upper floor. This will help separate the noisier aspects of library service from the quieter areas.

Q: Where are the magazines going to be in the new building and will it be a larger space for magazines?
A: The magazines will be located on the second floor. Additional space for more titles has been planned into the design.

Q: Will there be meeting rooms that can be reserved for tutoring or business meetings?
A: The new building will have larger group meeting space on the lower level and small group study space on the second level. The larger group rooms will accommodate groups between 50 and 150 people. The small group study rooms will accommodate groups of 4 to 6 people. The Library Board will determine a reservation policy prior to the grand opening.
