Conference Minister Ulery resigns
Conference Minister Kent Ulery has announced his resignation effective June 30, 2008.  It is with great sadness that we say good-bye to our Conference Minister but rejoice in his new call as President and Professor of Pastoral Leadership at Bangor Theological Seminary. We pray for his success and cherish the work that he has done in Michigan not only as our Conference Minister but also as our friend.
Kent’s letter read in part:

Some letters are easier to write than others. This is a difficult one. But I need to inform you of a surprising turn of events – an unexpected call – which causes me now to submit my resignation. On April 1, 2008, I received the call to serve as the next President and Profess of Pastoral Leadership at Bangor Theological Seminary.
This is not a call I sought. When first contacted by the seminary, as I have with so many otherunsolicited “feeler” letters received over the years, I threw their materials in the wastebasket…But now that their call has been extended….I find I cannot say “no” to this opportunity.
Please be assured that this decision does not indicate any dissatisfaction at all with the Michigan Conference or its staff….Certainly my life has been enriched by coming in touch with your lives, and I will continue to hold the churches, clergy, and conference staff precious in my heart.

IRS Investigation of UCC
You may have heard of this controversy, which started when UCC member Barack Obama addressed the UCC national convention.  The ucc.org website has the latest on this, which includes the good news that a very prominent law firm will be representing the UCC for free since the address included absolutely no political content of any kind!
