Like many small nonprofits, CAN would not be able to exist without the support of its volunteers. We enjoy an excellent relationship with the University of Michigan School of Social work and are grateful for its placement of MSW interns. Several student groups and churches also volunteer an afternoon a week at Hikone.

There are also opportunities to work with adults: there are families from Somalia and the Middle East who would like to receive English tutoring. One family would like assistance in becoming US citizens.

Long-term commitment, however, is not necessary: volunteers have painted our rooms, helped sort through our extensive library of books, built shelves, chaperoned special activities, organized our computer software, etc.
