CAN Programs

Babies, Toddlers and PreschoolersTeens Adults

For the most part, CAN's programs are youth focused. They include:

Babies, Toddlers, and Preschoolers

In addition to providing our youngest Hikone and GBC residents with food, warm clothing, and holiday presents, CAN offers the following programs and services:

  • Toy Libraries & More: starting in May at Hikone and in the fall at GBC, once a week toy libraries will provide a vehicle for parents, babies, toddlers and preschoolers to borrow toys, engage in fun activities, socialize and exchange information in a welcoming, relaxed setting.
  • For the third year, the Hikone community will enjoy a summer preschool at its center, offering two mornings of developmentally appropriate activities. Now that CAN has a piano, song singing will also be included!
  • Serendipity Reading brings free books to both sites. Children are encouraged to select two books weekly, which they may take home and keep. Children build their own personal libraries, filled with their favorite books
  • CAN makes certain that every child eligible for Head Start is registered and enrolled. This often means taking children to their required doctor's and dentist appointments, assisting parents with the mountain of needed paperwork and helping them collect the required documentation to confirm eligibility
  • CAN also acquires automatic Ann Arbor Ed & Rec. scholarships for our families, which means our youngest residents can attend First Steps with their mothers.
  • CAN advocates for our youngest community members on a county level by participating in the Success by Six initiative. In fact, our director is the co-chair of task group 4, which has as its goal to increase the quantity and coordination of home visiting services and parenting support services in our county. We also participate in the access to health care task group.

Teens

In addition to providing our Hikone and GBC teens with food, warm clothing, and holiday presents, CAN offers the following programs and services:

Adults,

Programs for adults are usually in the form of workshops or classes - frequently in collaboration with other agencies.
