AWC/Ann Arbor has three purposes: women, computers, and Ann Arbor. Links on this page are to groups that support any two, or all three, of those areas.


Related Groups - Ann Arbor Area

  • ACM's Committee on Women in Computing - A group committed to improving the working and learning environments for women in computing.
  • Ann Arbor Computer Society (AACS) - A gathering of computing professionals from Ann Arbor, southeast Michigan, and beyond who meet the first Wednesday of every month to discuss topics of interest.
  • Ann Arbor Macintosh User Group (MacTechnics) - is one of the largest Macintosh User Groups in Michigan and is comprised of all types of Macintosh users - from novice to professional. Formed in the fall of 1984, MacTechnics' goal is to expand graphical computer literacy in an entertaining way.
  • Ann Arbor IT Zone - A nonprofit 501c(3) organization established for the purpose of creating an information technology community in Ann Arbor and Washtenaw County.
  • Ann Arbor Java Users Group (AAJUG) - A organization for Java users. Meetings, conferences and topics of conversation are listed on their website.
  • Ann Arbor Oracle Users Group (AAOUG) - A organization for Oracle users. Meetings, conferences and topics of conversation are listed on their website.
  • Association for Women in Science (AWIS) has an Ann Arbor chapter.
  • Computer Science Alumnae of Michigan (CSAM) - A U-M organization committed to helping women obtain careers in Computing.
  • Grex - On-line community in Ann Arbor, with discussion forums on hundreds of topics from computers to cooking to cryptography. Offline, they have a walk in Gallup Park every Saturday morning, followed by lunch at a local restaurant.
  • ITtoolbox - a branded network of twelve Web properties catering to all levels of professionals working with IT products or making IT related decisions.
  • Michigan Huron Valley Chapter of PMI - The Chapter Mission is to support the advancement of members' project management knowledge, training, and networking through use of flexible venues that encourage member interactions at all personal and professional levels, with specific focus on high- technology project management needs.
  • Michigan Women's Marketplace - The Michigan Women's Marketplace is Michigan's online resource for women business owners and those supporting woman-owned businesses. By providing a comprehensive Women's Business Directory, statewide Events Calendar, and a list of business resources, the Michigan Women's Marketplace believes that women business owners, women business organizations, and corporations will benefit from increased online exposure.
  • South Eastern Michigan PHP Users Group (SEMPUG) - SEMPUG was one of the first PHP based user groups to be established. Monthly meetings are held at and is sponsored by Tap Internet, Inc. of Ypsilanti, MI. Anyone is welcome to join our SEMPUG Mailing List and join in with PHP questions, news and other useful tidbits about PHP.
  • South Eastern Michigan Rational User Group (SEMRUG) - Education and discussions for technical managers on practices promoted by Rational Software.
  • South Eastern Michigan Sun Local Users Group (SEMiSLUG) - an informal organization of Unix system and internetwork administrators who meet once a month to see a presentation and discuss topics relating to their professions. The meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month.
  • Washtenaw Linux Users Group - a gathering place for persons interested in Linux in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area. Meetings are held on the 3rd Thursday of each month.

  • The Acacia Initiative - an international effort to empower sub-Saharan African communities with the ability to apply information and communication technologies to their own social and economic development.
  • SA WISE - The Association of South African Women in Science & Engineering
  • Systers page - High Tech Women, usually pioneers on the personal computer, pioneers of the Electronic Age and things "webcentric".
  • The Third World Organization for Women in Science (TWOWS) - is an independent, non-profit and non-governmental body based at the offices of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in Trieste, Italy. Women in Computers sites
  • Women and Computer Science - MIT; more good online documents.
  • Webgrrls International - The women's tech knowledge connection. Webgrrls International provides a forum for women in or interested in new media and technology to network, exchange job and business leads, form strategic alliances, mentor and teach, intern and learn the skills to help women succeed in an increasingly technical workplace and world.   • Women In Technology International (WITI) - A professional organization for women in technology. Great articles. There is a chapter in southeast Michigan.

  • Adventures of Josie True - Has over 11 cool science, math, and technology games in this Internet adventure for girls and it's FREE!
  • Chabot Space and Science Center - Located in Oakland, California. Encourages girls to go into technology.
  • Color Math Pink - Helps middle and high school girls excel at math. Links include homework help, testing skills, problem solver bulletin board, study strategies, fear busters, and math activites/games.
  • Digital Divide - Looks at the digital divide in classrooms and workplaces, as well as races and genders.
  • Dream/Girl Magazine - Established in 1997 to provide girls with the most informative and interesting arts and literary information around.
  • Girl Power - Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for girls ages 9 to 14 to make the most of their lives.
  • Girl Start - Enables young women to explore technology and engineering.
  • Girl Tech - Sponsored by the Center for Excellence and Equity in Education at Rice University encouraging girls to get interested in computers.
  • Girls World - Free on-line magazine for and by girls and teens.
  • National Coalition of Girls' Schools - Promoting technology for students in all-girls schools.
  • SistaGirls - Site to encourage underserved teen girls to use the Internet to find information about careers and health topics.
