District 5 reminders, messages, current business, and projects

DISTRICT 5 BUSINESS MEETING:

The Next District 5 business meeting is scheduled for Saturday November 15, 2008; from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Elections for District offices will be held at the November meeting! Each group has one vote; if a group representative or alternate group representative is unable to attend, another group member can be designated to vote on behalf of the group. A description of District 5 officers’ service responsibilities is posted here. The meetings will be held at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2685 Packard Road, Ann Arbor. ALL Al-Anon members are welcome to attend! Have you been to a District meeting before? Please consider checking this one out – new faces and new ideas are needed and will be welcome!

Reminder: Let’s always remember that the newcomer is the most important person at any meeting! Our Fifth Tradition states, “Each Al-Anon Family Group has but one purpose: to help families of alcoholics. We do this by practicing the Twelve Steps of AA ourselves, by encouraging and understanding our alcoholic relatives, and by welcoming and giving comfort to families of alcoholics.” Our Twelfth Step encourages us to “carry this message to others.” There are many ways our program reaches out to welcome family and friends of alcoholics – especially newcomers to our program. Most groups provide literature packets for newcomers, and have a “first Step”/beginner’s table for newcomers or hold a “first Step”/beginner’s meeting when newcomers attend their meeting.

World Service Office I.D. Numbers for Registered Al-Anon/Alateen Groups in District 5

Al-Anon’s structure is described on our Al-Anon Structure page. Al-Anon groups (that are registered with the World Service Office,) Al-Anon districts, and Al-Anon Areas each have numbers that are used for identification purposes. Michigan is designated as Area 027. The district that includes Washtenaw County, Michigan is District 5.
