2010 Al-Anon/Alateen News, Business and Events

 

2010 KOMIAC Alateen Convention (Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana) was held in Campbellsville, Kentucky; Friday July 30, Saturday July 31st and Sunday August 1, 2010. KOMIAC was a weekend filled with excitement, fun, sharing, and unconditional love, for Alateens and sponsors.

 

Al-Anon Michigan AFG (Circle of Hope) Spring Assembly: was held on June 12, 2010 at 10:00am in the Family Life Center at the St. Louis Church of Christ, 1075 West Monroe Road, St. Louis, Michigan. Registration started at 9:00am. The Area Assembly is a business meeting where participating members share experiences and ideas, and group representatives vote on behalf of their members.

 

Michigan Al-Anon/Alateen 38th Annual State Convention 2010 with AA Participation was held: Friday May 14 through Sunday May 16, 2010, at the Shanty Creek Resort in Bellaire, Michigan. Theme: “Together We Can.” Al-Anon main speaker was Jesse P. from Flint, Michigan and the Alateen speaker was Molly G. from Wyoming, Michigan.

 

Michigan Alateen Spring Rally Lock-in: was held on Saturday April 10 – Sunday April 11, 2010; at the Dawn Farm Community barn, 6633 Stoney Creek Road, Ypsilanti Michigan. Doors opened Saturday 4:00 pm and close at 8:00 pm. They reopen again on Sunday at 8:00 am. Important rally as they were making decisions regarding the 2011 KOMIAC which will be held here in Michigan. Were working on items which will be sold at the state convention in May at Shanty Creek to help with the cost of the coming KOMIAC convention. Cost of event was $5.00 per person.

 

2010 World Service Conference: was held on April 10-15, 2010 at Virginia Beach, Virginia. Al-Anon’s 49th Annual World Service Conference, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Delegates to the World Service Conference share their experiences, solve problems, and make decisions about Al-Anon issues. More information about World Service Conferences was available on website.

 

2010 World Service Conference ”Delegates”: We gave support to our WSC Delegate by sending a “Thinking of You” support card to: Debbie Kyes at Wyndham Virginia Beach Oceanfront 5700 Atlantic Ave., Virginia Beach VA 23451. For return address we used: 2715 Ray Blvd, Traverse City MI  49685.

 

Michigan AWSC Meeting (Area World Service Committee): was held Saturday March 20, 2010 at 10:00 am in the Family Life Center at the St. Louis Church of Christ, 1075 West Monroe Road, St. Louis, Michigan. This meeting was attended by the Area officers, the Area coordinators, the District representatives, and any Al-Anon/Alateen member who was interested.

 

U.S. North Central Regional Delegates Meeting: was held March 12-14, 2010 in Rosemont, Illinois. World Service Office volunteers and staff members provide a first-hand opportunity for delegates and WSO personnel to share experiences and enthusiam about serving the fellowship. This is a Regional Service Seminar;

 

District 5 Al-Anon/Alateen Gratitude Day: was held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 2685 Packard Rd., Ann Arbor, Michigan. All Al-Anon members, families and friends were welcome. The speaker was Michigan’s Alternate Delegate, Liz P. from Flint. Al-Anon Groups were asked to bring small portions of “finger food” to share. Admission was free, but a Seventh Tradition donation was gratefully accepted to cover the facility cost for the event.

 

2010 “Other” Events (events that invite Al-Anon participation but are not organized solely by Al-Anon.)  

 

Alcoholics Anonymous 2010 International Convention: The 2010 International Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous was held July 1st       through July 4th in San Antonio, Texas with the theme 75 Years San Antonio “A Vision for You.” This convention includes Al-Anon /Alateen participation. 

 

Trillium 2010 (18th) “Courage to Change” 18th Al-Anon Convention with AA Participation The convention was held Friday June 18-20, 2010 at the Double Tree International Plaza Hotel 655 Dixon Road, Toronto, ONT. There was Al-Anon, Alateen and AA speakers. Also there was a full Alateen and AA Program.

 

58th Michigan Alcoholics Anonymous State Convention with full Al-Anon/Alateen Program: was held Friday May 28 through Sunday May 30, 2010, at Boyne Mountain, Michigan.  Weekend events and activities included AA speakers, Al-Anon and Alateen speakers, and more.

 

Al-Anon Panel Discussion (a moderated panel presentation in the Dawn Farm Education Series) was presented on Tuesday, May 18, 2010: from 7:30 pm. to 9:00 pm, at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Education Center, in the auditorium (ground floor) at 5305 Elliott Drive, Ypsilanti, Michigan. The panel was free and open to all.

 

Wisconsin 22nd Al-Anon Adult Children Workshop and Festival: was held Friday, April 30-May 2, 2010 at the Green Lake    Conference Center  W 2511 State Hwy, Green Lake, Wisconsin 54941. There was a Smoke-free environment, scheduled Meetings, Unlimited HUGS, Dance, Campfire Fellowships and unlimited service opportunities.

 

Dinner and a Movie: A new Hallmark Hall of Fame movie, “When Love is Not Enough” featured the story of Lois W., one of Al-Anon’s cofounders. The movie portrayed how Lois worked the Twelve Steps in her personal life.  The movie aired on the CBS television network Sunday, April 25, at 9 p.m.

 

2010 Lenawee Area Intergroup Mini-Conference with Al-Anon participation: was held on Saturday, March 27, 2010: registration began at 8:30 a.m. and the program began at 9:00 a.m. It was held at the Masonic Lodge on 700 Bishop Reed Drive, Tecumseh Michigan.  There were Skits, Panels, Speakers and Sharings.

 

Alcoholics Anonymous March Round Up 2010 was held on Friday March 5, through Sunday March 7, 2010; at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 600 Town Center Drive, Dearborn Michigan. Al-Anon and Alateen Speakers were Saturday. Hosted by General Services of Southeastern Michigan.

 

2010 Meeting Changes, News, Service Work and Updates

Ypsilanti Heritage Festival Al-Anon Booth: Al-Anon cohosted a information booth at the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival, Friday August 20 through Sunday August 22, 2010, at Riverside Park in the Depot Town area of Ypsilanti, Michigan. It was a great opportunity for 12th Step work!  Mary Lou (734-645-3012) asked for volunteers to staff the booth for 2 hour shifts.

 

Al-Anon Faces Alcoholism 2010” was available at the Literature Depot (Georgia’s Home).  Georgia ordered them and the groups picked up the copies to be distributed at doctor’s offices, libraries and etc.

               

(District 5 Rep Maggie S.) Group Reps and Alternate Group Reps from District 5 Al-Anon Meetings attended the Spring Assembly in St. Louis, MI on Saturday, June 12th.   Total attendance was 120.  District 5 co-hosted the State Level Business Meeting for Group Representatives and alternate Group Rep’s, along with District 4 of Lenawee County. Several fun surprises were planned!  A small team of workers assisted in registration, continental breakfast, snack, beverages and lunch.  The make-your-own-sandwich-menu was a success.  Salads, fresh fruits and vegetables and desserts rounded it out. Members donated Salads, desserts and cash donations were accepted from individuals or groups. District 4 of Lenawee County presented a skit and was enjoyed by all.

 

No Al-Anon Meetings were held the week of April 19-24,2010 at King of Kings Lutheran Church due to the setting up for the annual Garage Sale at the church. Meetings were relocated to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church at 4205 Washtenaw, Ann Arbor.

 

District 5 hosted the Michigan AWSC (Area World Service Committee) Meeting on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the St. Louis Church of Christ, St. Louis, Michigan. Help was needed to serve potluck dishes provided by attending members, clean up and make coffee.
